Who Do You Think You Are Live 2012

Who Do You Think You Are? Live (www.whodoyouthinkyouarelive.com), the UK's biggest family history fair, takes place this forthcoming weekend in London. As in previous years I will be attending, though this year will be doing a wee bit more at the event than in previous years - at least in a formal sense!

For the majority of my time there I will be working with the wonderful Bob and Liz Blatchford on the Family and Local History Handbook stall (stand 811), where we will be selling the first ever Irish Family and Local History Handbook on its official release within the UK. Very much looking forward to it! As well as the Irish edition you can of course pick up previous copies of the UK version - there will be a new omnibus edition on CD of the first 13 volumes, packed with lots of great articles! For more information on the handbooks, visit www.genealogical.co.uk.

On Friday 24th I will be giving a talk entitled Discover Scottish Church Records at 5.30pm in the Society of Genealogists Regional Studio. This talk is for those who cannot find an ancestor prior to 1855 (when civil registration began in Scotland), and provides both a concise summary of the history of the Church of Scotland, our state church, and a concise strategy on how to target the records for those very churches not yet available on the ScotlandsPeople website or other sites.

On Saturday 25th I will then be doing a talk entitled Irish Research Online at 3.00pm in the Celebrity Theatre / Society of Genealogists Studio 1. The talk does what it says on the tin, looking at the key resources most easily available to help those not resident in Ireland with their research. This talk will be signed and is sponsored by Discover Ireland.

Talks for both tickets can be picked up on the day, or booked in advance - see the website. (Incidentally, for those unable to attend, I have written books based on both talks, which have been published by Australian based venture Unlock the Past - see www.unlockthepast.com.au/unlock-past-publications for details)

On each day at the event I will also be helping for an hour in the Society of Genealogists advice area, from 11am-12pm. Come and see me with any problems you might have with your Scottish or Irish research, and I'll see if I can help!

Don't forget also to visit the Pharos Teaching and Tutoring Ltd (www.pharostutors.com) stand at tables 45 and 46 for details on forthcoming family history courses at an affordable price. My Scottish Research Online course starts March 8th!

As ever I will be running around like a blue-bottomed bunny with my camcorder trying to get snippets from the great and the good of the genealogy world, and looking for snippets of news to share with you on my return. If you're a reader of this blog, do say hi, and if you are desperate to share a news story, I'm all ears!

See you there - I'll be the one with the ice cream! :)

UPDATE: In the SoG advice area I will be at table 5 on Friday, and table 13 on Saturday and Sunday - each day from 11-12
